The Best Procore Alternative for Construction Scheduling

Procore does a lot. But scheduling requires more than a field coordination layer bolted onto a project management platform.

Why are enterprise construction teams choosing Planera over Outbuild?

Real CPM, not just gantt
Procore doesn't compute dates from logic. It decorates a Gantt and calls it a schedule. Planera runs full CPM with real float.
Built to export
Planera exports to XER, MPP, and XML for owner submittals and third-party review. Procore only exports to PDF - your schedule data is trapped inside their ecosystem.
A record you can defend
Planera tracks every change with a full audit trail and data date support. Procore has no change log, no version history, no data date, and no record of who moved what or when.

“The collaborative capabilities of Planera in real time are far and away above any other scheduling software. Multiple people can use it at one time and develop a schedule together.”

Planera's CPM software supports complex construction projects

A scheduling engine, not a scheduling skin

Procore Scheduling is a Gantt editor with a critical path toggle, not a CPM engine. Planera computes every date from logic, runs forward and backward pass calculations, and updates the critical path dynamically as you edit.

Schedules that travel

Procore only exports to PDF, which means your schedule data is locked inside their platform with no way to produce an XER, MPP, or XML for owner review, claims analysis, or forensic work. Planera exports to all standard formats.

The 'one platform' reality check

Procore's "one platform" pitch falls apart at the schedule: their RFI, submittal, and inspection tools have no functional link to the scheduling module. Planera gives you schedule-aware project controls, where what happens in the field actually connects to the plan.

World-class support

From kickoff to closeout, Planera's team manages the complexity with hands-on, on-site support, so you can focus on building.

We will meet you wherever you are

Planera is not trying to replace Procore's document management, financials, or quality tools. It replaces the scheduling gap. Use Procore for project management and Planera for scheduling, connected through our native integration.

Frequently Asked Questions

To help you make an informed decision, we've compiled some of the most commonly asked questions.

Is Procore Scheduling really not a CPM tool?

Correct. Procore Scheduling does not perform forward/backward pass calculations. There is no automated float calculation. Users can freely override dates without upstream validation.

For teams that need logic-driven scheduling, critical path analysis, and float management, Planera is the right tool.

Are our teams actually planning in Procore Scheduling, or just viewing a snapshot?

Procore's read-only mode is explicitly designed as a mirror, not a planning tool. The lookahead is a coordination layer. Real planning still happens in P6 or MSP. Even in editable mode, the lack of CPM logic means teams are arranging bars on a timeline, not building a logic-driven schedule.

What happens when we re-import an updated master schedule?

Procore's re-import completely overwrites the previous schedule. There is no merge, no reconciliation, no preservation of in-progress field updates. Lookahead tasks created in Procore are preserved but can become orphaned if their parent activity is deleted.

Does Planera integrate with Procore?

Yes. Planera has a native Procore integration, so your scheduling data and project management data stay connected. You get the CPM depth of a dedicated scheduling platform without losing ecosystem connectivity.

What about Procore's AI scheduling features?

Procore announced AI scheduling agents at Groundbreak 2024, but as of the February 2026 GA release, there is no evidence of schedule intelligence, compression detection, or automated insights in the shipped product. Planera's AI assistant, Manny, is live today.

How many users can I have with Planera?

Our pricing includes unlimited users. Procore's ACV-based model ties your software cost to your annual construction volume. As your revenue grows, your bill grows too, whether your scheduling needs have changed or not.
